Bhavan's History
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan USA. was established in New York on October 2, 1981, on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It initially operated from Queens, New York, USA with support from the Hinduja Foundation, before relocating to a larger facility in Manhattan, New York in 1993 to serve both Indian and non-Indian communities. Currently we are located at 305 Seventh Avenue, Fl 17th, New York, Bhavan USA. continues to foster cultural exchange and education.

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan New York, USA branch was founded by Late Prime Minister of India, Shri. P. V. Narasimha Rao & former Under-Secretary-General (USG) and Chef de Cabinet in the United Nations. The organization’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee include representatives from diverse regions and communities.

Founded in India in 1938 by Late Padma Shri Dr. K.M. Munshi with the blessings of Late Shri. Mahatma Gandhi, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has grown into a global institution with over 60 branches. The Bhavan runs numerous schools, colleges, and cultural centers, and has published more than 1,000 works on Indian culture, history, philosophy, and more.
